Rihanna
To go from makeup-free to red carpet ready, first Rihanna pumps up her lips. Her already dramatic natural cupid’s bow is primed by lining with a clear lip pencil like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone right outside the lip line to prevent feathering – it also serves to mattify any color for waterproof long-wear that never feels dry or cakey.
Next, paint on MAC Viva Glam Rihanna, a flattering-to-most blue-red frost finish lipstick that offers a subtle shine and gold, multidimensional sparkle.
For lashes that blow away small animals on the street, Rihanna’s makeup artist applies two coats of mascara, lashes, then another two coats of mascara. The mascara and natural lashes need to marry the falsies. When the hairs get merged together, it looks like it’s growing from your eyes!
Lisa Rinna
Lisa could be tucked away in Iceland – and still sport a tantalizing glow. Not only is she using a gel-based self-tanner like Caudalie Soleil Divin that gives her a buildable tan so there’s less of a chance for streaks, she’s topping it off with a liquid bronzer to amp up her color as well. A washable liquid bronzer like By Terry’s Tea to Tan is a great option. This liquid, water color bronzer penetrates deep, so it looks like your own skin and provides a long-lasting “iced tea” shade that protects skin from free radicals, too.
Then, bring on more bronze! Lisa’s signature eye takes a queue from her olive skin. Instead of a severe black smokey eye, she opts for shadows and liners that are just a few shades darker than her own skin like MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Artist Shadow in ME – 612 mixed with MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua Matic in ME – 50 and Artist Liner in ME -70. The key is extending the lower lash line shadow almost a little lower than you want to go, but with a rounded edge that will serve to make eyes appear more open and awake. Always, always finish any smokey eye with a liquid liner like Almay intense i-color liquid liner on the top lash line for a pro finish.
Jennifer Aniston
Must be all that water! Jen Aniston’s illuminated, almost wet-looking bottom lash serves to give her a youthful, brightened, rested appearance. For this look you’ll want to highlight the lower lash line – which gives it a 3D, popping-up-at-you effect that reads young, fresh and raw. L’Oreal Paris Silkissime Eyeliner in Highlighter is the perfect silk-creme pencil to trace along the lower lashline, right below your lash hairs to give you a Precious-Moments-teary-in-the-best-way effect.
As a matter of fact, the key to Jennifer’s makeup is that it all appears to come from within, her cheeks radiate a rose heat as if she got a little sun or windburned! Cream blush is crucial, and the most natural way to achieve this type of flush – and the trick is to also sweep a little over your nose for the most realistic, just coming back from the cabana warmth. Mix Laura Mercier Creme Cheek Colour in Blaze, and MAKE UP FOR EVER Second Skin HD Blush in 215 – a flamingo pink shade – on the back of your hands and work gently into the skin using the warmth of your fingers. Apply on the high apples of the cheeks and a blend tiny bit right over the tip of your nose for a realistic, coming-from-within radiance.
Beyonce
We have enough reason to be envious. Talented and nice… and now we learn she doesn’t even wear foundation! Everyday is a foundation-free selfie day for Bey. Her dermatologist’s Rx? Every day exfoliation – but not how you’ve been taught! “You need to exfoliate [before your skin] can even tolerate proper cleansing. If you have a tough stain on your kitchen counter, you need to scrub first before you can clean, it’s the same thing.” Like Bey’s go-to, a sandpaper-y scrub, CosMedix’s Purity Detox Scrub uses real grit in the way of poppy, jojoba and date seeds to remove dead skin cells.
“I go to bed looking totally greasy,” Beyoncé says, laughing to ELLE. The star slathers on Aquaphor nightly. Tread lightly though, it’s a thick emollient, and while noncomedogenic it’s a product to experiment with slowly.
As for skin, her makeup artist breaks all the rules – and should inspire you to do the same! Smudge a creamy pearlescent highlighter like hydrating IT Cosmetics Hello Light Illuminator above brows, right above cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, onto the center of your chin – and most surprisingly on the center of the forehead and under the eyes! Leave everything as lubricated as possible, he explains. For the rest of us, pack on that foundation and powder, but melt it all into your skin with Panasonic Nano Facial Steamer. The mist will remove the powdery finish so it looks like your skin, but better!
Finally, for an equally lubricated pout, Beyonce’s makeup artists extend gloss beyond her lip line. Merle Norman Liquid Lipcolor boasts a silicone elastomer – an elastic-like material that allows the product to remain flexible so that it moves with your lips and won’t bleed beyond where you place it.
