We’ve all been there and it’s not surprising that Sunday is often the night of the week Americans find it most difficult to fall asleep. According to a survey by Procter & Gamble and the National Sleep Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans struggle more to fall asleep on Sunday nights compared to other nights of the week. So here are some hacks and new products so you don’t lose even more sleep looking for a sane solution!
SCENT SENSATIONS
It’s no surprise mom soothed us to bed with a glass of warm milk at night, the scent and ritual is so comforting. Fill your surroundings with scents like honey, vanilla, sandalwood, coconut and lavender! The easiest way is incorporating it into your nightly beauty routine – a two-in-one!

GO TO THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM

PASS THE SMELL TEST
That post-dinner cup of decaf coffee is keeping you up! Just the smell of coffee is enough to jolt you awake. Heck according to new studies, you may want to steer clear of Starbucks coffee wafts late at night, too. Citrus and peppermint can be energizing, too, so keep that in mind when brewing a late night cup of tea as well. One easy way to shift the scent balance in your room? A light mist of Bath and Body Work Lavender Vanilla Pillow Mist helps calm and clear your mind for restful, peaceful slumber.
A ROSIER NOISE
Pink noise is the new prettier white noise – and you can get it as easily as a quick app download tonight! The easiest way to explain it is that pink noise is sound where every octave is lower but carries the same power or frequency, so for instance, a fan, rain falling on pavement or wind on the leaves of a tree – the key is uninterrupted steady sound, no birds chirping here!
The Sleep and Noise Sounds app is free in the iTunes store and also available for Android.
90-MINUTE MODEL
You should sleep at either 10 – or wait until 11:30PM to make sure you don’t wake in the middle of your 90-minute sleep cycle. If you need to wake up at 8AM (lucky you!), you want to head to be at either 11PM or 12:30AM.
Thankfully the newest wearable tech on the market helps you get a better night of sleep by tracking your sleep, monitoring your bedroom environment (light, humidity), your heart rate, respiration and waking you after your 90-minute cycle so you’re well-rested and more alert through the day.
Beddit and Withings Aura are two solutions that attach right to your mattress, no wrists required! Both track your heart rate, respiration, snoring and more and gives you tips on how to improve sleep. Aura emits melatonin-inducing red light to usher you to sleep and wakes you up in line with the 90-minute model with melatonin-hindering blue light so you wake up during your lightest sleep phase.
